Bauhaus: A cultural phenomenon
The Bauhaus was an extremely short, highly creative epoch between the world wars, it changed modernity fundamentally. It was based on utopian ideals that led to a groundbreaking fusion of art, technology and craftsmanship. These were implemented across all design methods and media: Bauhaus influenced architecture as well as product design, film, theatre, sculpture and pottery. Such a comprehensive retrospective as the one presented in this book required great expertise. That is why the Berlin Bauhaus Archive, which as a museum for design contains the world's largest collection on Bauhaus history, was involved. The spirit of famous artists such as Josef Albers, Walter Gropius, Marianne Brandt, Gertrud Grunow, Mies van der Rohe, Paul Klee and Lilly Reich is revived in the studies, writings, photographs and sketches.
