Less and More (The Design Ethos of Dieter Rams) by Die Gestalten Verlag
Dieter Rams was a designer for the manufacturer Braun for more than four decades, during which time he acquired a reputation as a leading industrial designer of the 20th century. With his clear and elegant designs, he has defined product design for decades and at the same time our basic understanding of design and its possibilities. Already in the early 1990s Dieter Rams established ten design rules ("Ten Commandments of Design"), which include innovation, utility, aesthetics, understanding, unobtrusiveness, honesty, durability, consistency, environmental friendliness and reduction. Therefore, it is always about less and more in the design language. The hardcover edition contains several hundred pictures of Rams products, but also sketches and models. Electric shavers and stereo systems from Braun are included, as well as chairs and shelving systems from Vitsœ, another Rams employer.
