Surf Photoraphy by LeRoy Grannis

This book looks back on the years when surfing became mainstream. More than 500 years ago, surfing was invented in Hawaii. In the 1950s, it made its way to mainland America and took it by storm.

Surfing is for many people not only a sport, but a way of life. An important figure in this scene was LeRoy Grannis, the photographer of the scene since the sixties.

Surf Photoraphy from Taschenverlag shows excerpts from Grannis' private archive - about the luck of the perfect wave, but also about the rugged ocean. Grannis was considered a pioneer. He had a box attached to his surfboard and was able to change films on the water, so he came closer to the surfers than anyone else and was able to capture their lifestyle directly.
