Field notes: Notebooks with American flair
It is the year 2006: Aaron Draplin, designer and collector of performing arts, draws his inspiration from functional notebooks found at gas stations and agricultural dealerships in the Midwest in the first half of the 20th century. From then on he produced so-called "field notes", small notebooks that Draplin sent as gifts to his friends. One of them is Jim Coudal from the advertising agency Coudal Partners, who immediately recognises the potential of the little books. The company Field Notes is launched as a joint venture in 2007 - what follows is a single success story. Today, Field Notes sells a range of notebooks and stationery that will delight you with their functional and typically American design, earning them a permanent place in your backpack.
Loving design meets structured structure
Field Notes is inspired by the disappearing subgenre of agricultural memo books, decorated paperbacks and the simple, unobtrusive beauty of a well-written shopping list. Designer Aaron Draplin, known in the USA for his work on behalf of Nike or former President Obama, is fully absorbed in his passion for notebooks: He has collected hundreds of them over the years and always finds new inspiration for his brand in them. Exclusively made in the USA, the memo books are an indispensable companion for anyone who likes to record their thoughts in writing, knows their appointments are well organised and values a clear yet chic design.
