Vans: A classic among skate shoes
In 1966 Paul and Jim van Doren together with Gordon Lee and Serge Delia opened the "Van Doren Rubber Company" in Anaheim, California. The first vans sold are fresh from production, as the newly founded company combines production and sales under one roof. In the beginning they even brought their own fabrics to the shop to have their own model made. In the early days of Vans, the models are not given names, they are only given numbers. The first shoe model sold was Vans #44, which is still available as Authentic today.
In the 70s, Vans and skateboarding came together. The early skateboarders of California appreciated the good grip and robust workmanship of the sneakers. The vulcanized, thick soles with the waffle pattern are still one of the trademarks of Vans today.
